I kind of aspire to be like your Dad, but I have the same kind of shyness and inner killjoy that you described. (i beat the girls) last yr i could do it in 35.11. getting old. kayaked to work last week...took 2 hrs each way, but the best part was walking the kayak up 4 blocks and parking it in the parking garage. lots of looks....wonder why? went to a wedding the last wk end and i was mr. happy feet. topic of conversation the next day. i had this 30 yr old who kept showing off his moves and i would have to come back with mine. it went on all night. what a hoot! what you don't realize is that i was a pretty serious character myself. i became the court jester because it was a way to seek acceptance....as a kid it was, "mattie, why don't you see if the ice is thick enough", "mattie, see if our raft will float". you are the serious me, and yes, you are becoming the idiot me...i love it. hopefully, when you reach 60 you too will be the source of conversation for doing what others are too mature to do. i will be proud of you if do. by the way, when are you going to start writing for a living?
