i want to trigger your heart
i dragged it out for as long as i could… but harry potter is finally finished.
it was wonderfully delicious escapism while it lasted, and it was sheer bliss to open a fresh new book and plunge headlong into the kind of voraciously joyful reading where you willingly give your entire heart and mind over to the story and let it carry you along for the entire vicarious ride.
magical.
and yeah, i know they’re children’s books – i don’t care. i haven’t had that much fun reading since i was a kid and it was a special thrill to be able to recapture that feeling of pure adventure.

Didja cry? I cried.
I find it interesting that the people that don’t like the books are so violent in their derision. I had no interest in reading The Davinci Code but I didn’t hit people over the head that enjoyed it.

didn’t cry, but did get a bit verklempt
i think i know what you mean – the vehemence of the backlash seems a bit excessive at times. but then, the hype *has* been a bit much as well.

I got teary. It was great. you know- I think the first 2 or so were kids books. then each book has grown up development wise and lit wise imho. So I don’t think of book 7 as a kid’s book. I think it’s perfect for the kids who started reading when it came out. The books grew as they grew.
Sadly if my kids like them, they might try to gobble them all at once and well I think book 7 isn’t for an 8 or 9 year old. I dunno though actually I read agatha christie books at 9/10 and Stephen King at 11 so I guess if they start around 8 or 9 and slowly work their way up getting to 7 at around 10 it would be fine. I know at age 8 I was into luara ingalls wilder and I never finished them all. I got bored and too old for it. with HP you really can’t get too old.

i absolutely devoured book 7 and am completely satisfied with the close to the story. i know *some* people, ahem amity, abhor the popularity of the series, but i think it’s good to see kids and adults alike excited about reading. that said, i’d never be caught dead outside the bookstore in wizard gear waiting for the release at midnight. nutters.
