i just woke to this terribly sad news.

i have always been so proud of the things ted kennedy stood for and fought for over his career. i have always been so fiercely proud to call him my senator.

the world has lost a truly great humanitarian, one of the last great liberals. he made me proud to be a liberal.

i hope that we can continue to carry on his legacy, and succeed in his last great quest: universal healthcare.

Well said. He was one of a shrinking breed of proud liberals.

so i really can’t pass up a chance to offer my 2 cents on this one.
we have been watching the funeral and speeches over the last 2 days. boy, what he has done in his career is amazing – over 1000 bills that he played a role in passing with over 300 that he authored. in barak’s eulogy he recalled someone saying that he and daniel webster were the greatest senators in the nation’s history. ted’s reply was, “so what did this webster guy do?”

ted was a key driving force to cleaning up the sewer called boston harbor. pier 4 in charlestown has a stone plaque honoring him for this from the city of boston. i wasn’t able to attend the memorial viewing, however, i was able to honor him after work by jumping off the pier last thurs. the water was great…warm, clean and refreshing on a beautiful summer eve. managed to avoid getting caught by the cops.

3 years before cate an i met, she was a the fagawi sailboat race in nantucket. it is a wooden boat race and ted would sail “maya” in it. she tells me she was all dolled up and looked pretty damn good. she and ted saw each other and their eye locked. later, at one of the bars, he sent her a drink and then came over. they laughed and chatted (and yes, even touched) for 20min and he invited her to come to a post race party. she declined (she still doesn’t know why). he met vicki shortly afterward. sorry ted, your loss my gain. another piece of american history.

    love ya,
